A few photos from our May ranunculus season!

Overall, we had a great first season growing such a fickle flower, but as always in farming, there were learning lessons.

Main Learning Lessons:

  • Plant tighter rows or in fabric next year. We battled a lot of weed pressure because we had too much space between our rows.
  • Watering was tough in the early spring weather because we went through a pump or two due to freezing weather. We mostly hand watered our rows when there were warm spells. The next time we plant ranunculus we will do so with a better watering plan!
  • Live closer. No one was living on the farm this year due to construction which made tending to such a fickle crop really tough. For instance, any time it was too cold we would have to run over and put the frost cloth on. Then drive back over in the morning to take it off before they got too hot. And this spring had major weather swings!
